There are more people choosing to lead active lives then ever before. This is a choice to lead a healthier type of lifestyle by staying physically fit. There are a number of different types of physical activities people can participate in to help them stay fit and healthy. Sport activities are often offered through community centers where people can sign up to play volleyball, tennis, softball or basketball. While these activities do provide a workout when people participate in them on a regular basis, it is also beneficial to get regular exercise to keep the muscles and joints limber.

Regular exercise benefits people in a number of different ways. People who choose to stay fit, not only have better physiques, they also have better heart rates and digestive systems. When the heart rate is increased during physical activity it helps circulate blood throughout the body, which in turn benefits all of the inside organs. The lungs also work harder to take in air during periods of physical activity, which also helps all of the cells and tissues in the body. People who regularly participate in sports activities are less likely to suffer from strokes or heart attacks.

Participating in sports also helps build the different muscle groups in the arms, legs and abdomen. People who have stronger muscles are less likely to incur injuries due to falling or lifting of heavy objects. Stretching out the muscles and tendons will also reduce the risk of back strain people incur from sitting for prolonged periods of time. People who exercise on a regular basis, also sleep better because their bodies are stronger, healthier and well oxygenated. People who get a sound night’s sleep are able to focus their thoughts better so they can make better decisions, in both their personal and business lives.

When you are trying to keep in shape you should not let winter slow you down. There are many ways to keep your body in tip top shape even in the winter. There are fun things to do to keep your shape even in the winter.
When you are in need of a fat blasting workout in the winter you should always remember to keep hydrated. The cold air can make you dehydrated, so drink a lot of water while working out in the winter.

If you like the rush of flying down hills and jumping to burn many calories then you should give down hill skiing or snow boarding a try. You put in a lot of effort doing either sport and you can burn any where between 450 -700 calories per hour depending on intensity.

How much fun it would be to see the snow covered woods while getting a great work out. Cross country snow shoeing is a great way to burn around 1000 calories per hour and it is low impact on your body and your joints. Many pro athletes use snow shoeing as a way to train for sporting events and it is so easy to do, that if you can walk, you can snow shoe.

Winter is a great time of year that you can try your abilities on the ice. Ice skating, this sport is challenging on your balance and leg strength but is very fun and relaxing. An hour of ice skating burns roughly 350 calories. Only in winter months can you get a group of your pals together outside on a frozen lake to try your hand at ice hockey. You never know, you may just find that you are amazing on ice skates.

Doing your Pilates work out can be a great way to burn calories and add strength but add a new twist, by doing Pilates in the snow. The snow actually makes it more difficult for added resistance and a greater challenge for your abdominals. So if you are board with your pilaties work out just take it outside for a change.

When you need a full body work out and a chore done try chopping fire wood with a friend. You can burn around 500 calories per hour. It is not exactly considered a work out but it does work the entire body. Swinging an axe may help blast some troubled areas while giving you a full body work out and some much needed stress busting moves. Being in the woods where it is quit and beautiful can also be meditative, which can reduce anxiety and stress which can help keep you in shape.

This year take charge of winter and make it the best time to get in shape with these helpful tips.
